Best 6 online classical music resources for teachers and kids

Want to supplement or just give your kids some educational, kid friendly websites where they can learn all about classical music? Here are my top six online resources.

1. Classic for Kids

This award winning website is a good resource but I’ve got to say my favorite are their radio shows. They do a new show every Saturday show casing a famous composer.  If you miss a show, no problem, you can simply search their archives and pick a specific composer you are studying to listen to.  They also provide simple quizzes to see if the kids understood the key points.  Overall it’s quick and fun introduction to famous composers and their music.

2.  Carnegie Hall Listening Adventures

Love this! All three games are fun and done very well, but “The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, by Benjamin Britten” is fantastic! It’s engaging, informative, fun and FREE, what better way to learn.  The Carnegie Hall Animated History is also fun to explore especially if you want your kids to know more about this historic building that has had such an impact on the music culture.

3.  www.playmusic.org

From the American Symphony Orchestra League for kids games and teacher materials.

4. www.nyphilkids.org

The New York Philharmonic’s educational website for children.

5. www.sfskids.org

The San Francisco Symphony’s educational website for children. Kids can compose their own music, explore the orchestra, learn music theory and of course, all about the symphony.

6. www.artsalive.ca

The National Arts Centre in Canada where you can virtually “handle” an orchestral instruments, test your musical knowledge through games, get teacher and parent lesson plans and more.

Hello, friend from Russia. Thank you for asking. Assuming you are using it only to help others learn more about music resources, then yes, you are welcome to use the information. I hope it is a blessing to you and your readers.
