How To Check What Your School is Really Teaching
Christian parents are told in Proverbs 22:6 that we are to train up a child in the way he should go so that when he is old he will not turn from it and with schools getting ready to start, how we can we best follow that mandate.
While many parents have opted to homeschool in a christian environment, most opt to put their children in public school for various reasons. Of the two, the public school parent has a much more difficult time instilling the values that they hold dear due to strong influences in school, and the fact that the parents authority is no longer present or very limited. But you’ve visited the school, met your kids teachers and live in a nice neighborhood so you don’t really feel you have much to worry about or do you.
Actually, one of the strongest presence now is from the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), a National education organization focused on eliminating bullying of gay and lesbians through education. The problem is not that they are trying to stop bullying of gays and lesbians, but that their message is actually promoting homosexuality and gay marriage through curriculums, sponsored activities, family life education courses, supplemental materials, school library books, teacher biases and not permitting or giving little importance to opposing view points without most parents even being aware of it.
How can a parent find out if their child’s school is gravitating towards these influences or is they’re school is already knee deep in them? Listen to the video below:
So basically:
1. Look at how the school district is defining family and watch for Diversity Week, and gay pride events such as Day of Silence in April.
2. Review family life / diversity education courses.
3. Use websites such as Facts On Fiction to review all supplemental materials (including videos) that empower parents, teachers and educators so they can determine if a book may be appropriate for a particular child to read.
4. Easily review all curriculum and get copies of actual lesson plans through the TrueTolerance.org website.
5. Go to the school library and type in research words like gay, lesbian and identity to see the quantity of these books available to teachers and students
6. Lastly, use the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) directly or through the TrueTolerance website to help you voice your opinion and educate the school leaders against any First Amendment rights violations.
